Poultry Processing Assistant


Our Wellington Butchery is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Poultry Processing Assistant to join our day shift team.

This is a hands-on role where you will play a vital part in our daily operations, supporting our skilled butchers and helping deliver high-quality poultry products to our customers.

Position snapshot:

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • Immediate start
  • Location: William Durant Drive, Upper Hutt
  • Days of work: Monday to Saturday (6 days per week)
  • Shift times:
    • Monday to Friday: 2:00 am – 10:30 am
    • Saturday: 2:00 am – 7:30 am

The Role

As a Poultry Boner, you will be responsible for deboning whole chicken carcasses, packing and preparing poultry products, and maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and hygiene.

Your primary responsibilities will include processing, packing, and preparing poultry products in accordance with strict quality and food safety standards.

Key duties include:

  • Poultry processing, including boning, packing, and labelling products with accuracy and care
  • Ensuring all products meet quality and food safety requirements
  • Operating vacuum packing and other machinery used in meat preparation
  • Organising and preparing customer orders for timely delivery
  • Maintaining a clean, hygienic, and safe work environment
  • Preparing meat products as required (full training provided)
  • Following all Food Safety and Health & Safety procedures to a high standard
  • Assisting with general butchery and other operational duties as required

The Person

Our ideal candidate will have previous experience in a meat processing, packing, or food production environment and demonstrate a strong commitment to quality and teamwork.

Skills and Attributes

  • Previous experience in a processing, warehouse, or food industry environment
  • Good knife-handling skills (preferred but not essential – training provided)
  • Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently under pressure
  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 20 kg
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting
  • Strong work ethic with a focus on safety, cleanliness, and reliability
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a cold environment
  • Reliable transport and willingness to learn
  • Flexible and able to assist with additional tasks as required
